Outdoor Inflatable Movie Screens For Great Home Entertainment by Sandra Tiffany
I rented an outdoor movie screen last summer for my grand kids and that was my first introduction to the screens. In fact, I was at my grand daughter's pre-school silent auction fund raiser evening and bought an entire package for outdoor movie viewing. The package included a Superman movie, a rented popcorn machine, red licorice whips and sodas.
The kids got their beach lawn chairs and put them in front of the movie screen. When it turned dark outside the parents started the movie. The screen was 12 feet high and was just like the old days of drive in movies. Needless to say, it was a big hit, the kids loved the big outdoor screen and we will make it an annual summer event.
Watching movies outside during the summer months is becoming more and more popular. A movie makes for a great night camping, in the back yard or at a group gathering.
Using walls, screens and sheets people have been showing movies outdoors for years, but modern screens offer so much more. The picture is very important in watching a movie. Screens today are capable of providing a picture as good as some of the best televisions. Most are designed to show movies in the correct proportions so that you see the complete screen. These screens are also portable, allowing them to be easily relocated when an event is finished without damage to the surrounding environment.
Today's portable screens rely on air inflation to keep them standing. Most come with supports and will stand up on their own once inflated. The smaller screens use a pump that is constantly running to keep the screen up. 10 or 12 foot screens operate quite effectively with this device.
Kits are available that include speakers, projector and screen, or you can just buy the screen. Most computers can function as a projector including laptops, so it is easy to use these to project movies on your screen. DVD projectors and Blue ray projectors can be had today for under $700.
Many game system consoles can also project to screens. This gives you the option of playing video games or watching programs from CDs. 10 to 12 foot screens start at around $200 for just the screen. These are fairly portable. Larger screens start at 16 feet and cost from $400 up. The 16 foot outdoor inflatable movie screen also comes in a kit for about $2000 that works comfortably in a big back yard.
Much bigger than 16 feet, you need an area large enough to seat 250 to make these screens practical. If you need to present shows to a large group, screens in sizes from 16 feet to 25 feet are available. These screens can be rented or purchased. One renter has a screen that is 100 feet tall, but often at sizes larger that 25 feet the pictures start to be fuzzy. The larger screens, which often don't need a pump running all the time, start at $2000 and up.
For a once yearly use, however, renting an outdoor inflatable movie screen is a good economical option.
