Was able to take care of important mails while at the airport! by Thomas Jon

There was a week’s training that was being conducted at our California branch and I was at the airpot. I was attending this training along with Sam, one of my colleagues. We had reached the airport and had gone through the security checks well on time. While Sam and I were seated in the lounge, we heard an announcement confirming that our flight for California had been delayed by two hours due to unstable weather conditions. We looked at each other with an eye of disbelief!

With plenty of time in our hands, Sam went to browse the stores at the airport and I turned on my laptop and sat in the lounge. I had some important e-mails to respond to, and since it was a Wi-Fi enabled lounge, I decided to respond to all the e-mails there itself. However, when I tried connecting my laptop to the Wi-Fi network, I was unable to go online. I tried to check for the Internet as well as the Bluetooth settings, but they all seemed to be just fine.

By the time Sam came back, it had almost been half-an-hour and I was still trying to search for a possible solution by juggling around with the laptop settings to get the laptop to connect to the Wi-Fi network. This was getting on my nerves as I had some important mails to respond to and my flight was delayed! The other people sitting in the lounge were able to access the Internet and were comfortably working on their laptops. I was completely engrossed with finding a possible solution, and not at all paid attention to what Sam was telling me. It was only when he tapped on my shoulder that I became aware that he was talking to me.

When I looked up at Sam, he immediately shot out a question at me to inquire what was bothering me. Since he had some technical knowledge, I told him the problem as well as the steps I had taken to rectify this problem. He then took my laptop and tried to diagnose the problem. But after giving it a quick look he told me to contact a tech support company called iYogi. I had no clue what he was talking about. When I asked him, he told me that iYogi was an online tech support company. I was still in doubt, so Sam switched on his laptop and opened up the website of this company and asked me to have a look at it. I browsed through the website and also read the iYogi- written by those people who had already used their services. By the time I had finished reading, I decided to call up this tech support company to seek assistance.

My call was answered almost instantly and a cheerful male voice greeted me, which I thought was the technician. I told him the problem that I was facing while accessing the Internet. He diagnosed the issue and told me that he would call me back in a few minutes. When he called back, I explained the cause of the problem to him and he very patiently heard them out and assisted me in resolving the problem by carrying out some troubleshooting steps, one after the other. I was able to access the Internet finally! I thanked him and disconnected the call. I started to check my e-mails and also responded to all of them. I cleared my inbox by the time we had to board the flight.

In the early 1970s, video arcade games sprung to life with the advent of Pong and other coin-operated games. Within just a few short years, if you had a quarter, you could go to the video arcade and play Space Invaders, Asteroids, or Pac-Man. If you were lucky enough to have an Atari system hooked up to your television, you could play Frogger or Galaga at home. By the early 1980s, arcade and video games were entrenched as a pop culture phenomenon, with players spending hours in arcades racking up as many points as possible. Arcade games were everywhere: restaurants, bowling alleys, department stores, grocery stores--anywhere that could accommodate a three-foot by five-foot machine. But, just as soon as the phenomenon began, it morphed into something else with the advent of hand-held games and more sophisticated home-gaming systems. Brian Eddy, former executive director, producer, and programmer for Midway Games, traces the evolution of arcade video games in Classic Video Games, giving readers an inside look at the stratospheric rise--and collapse--of the industry. Readers will reminisce about their favorite games, such as Centipede, Ms. Pac-Man, Tron, and Star Wars as they relive the glory days of the classic video game rage of the 1970s and 1980s.
