Collect Cheap Nintendo DS Consoles for Profit by Brian Moffat
Do you think sales of the Nintendo Wii, Playstation, and Xbox have been enormous? Believe it or not but the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite may win the prize for the most sought-after video game console during the past couple years. Even though these video game consoles are pint-sized, their sales have been nothing short of gigantic.
According to the NPD Group which performs marketing research for a wide range of industries, 3.0 million Nintendo DS Lites were sold in the United States during the month of December 2008 . This breaks the record for the most units sold by a video game manufacturer in one month. Sony held the previous record in which 2.7 million Playstation 2 units were sold during the month of December 2002.
Besides being portable, the Nintendo DS is also available in a variety colors. This makes the unit very popular with collection enthusiasts who always need to own one of everything. Many collectors like to have one console they can use for display and another they don't have to worry about getting scratched or damaged.
How much would your old Atari be worth if you still had one today? I bet you could sell one on Ebay for a nice chunk of change. Who knows how much a Nintendo DS in prime condition will be worth 30 years from now?
There is an assortment of special edition Nintendo DS units available including one for the Pirates of the Carribean movie premiere. Another popular console is the Legend of Zelda unit. This console was produced to coincide with the release of the DS version of the classic video game along with other consoles including Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong.
Certain consoles were also produced to raise money for charity like the Nintendo DS Lite Pink Ribbon special edition console. Every time a unit a sold Nintendo donates a certain percentage of the proceeds to the Susan G. Komen foundation which raises money for breast cancer research.
A favorite special edition Nintendo DS Lite units amongst collectors is the Red Mario which you can purchase along with the New Super Mario Brothers Nintendo DS game. The unit is a flashy red color and has a large white 'Mario M' on the cover. When the original Nintendo Home Entertainment Systems was released in 1985 Super Mario Brothers was the video game that every kid wanted.
Some Nintendo DS Lite consoles will be easier to find than others such as the Pink Ribbon and Ice Blue unit that comes with Brain Age. You'll probably have to search high and low for other units such as Pirates of the Caribbean and the Legend of Zelda. Some Zelda units are gold and others are silver. The silver consoles were sold in the United Kingdom and only 1000 of the gold units were produced for sale in the United States. I would definitely snatch up any Nintendo DS console you come across while visiting garage sales and thrift stores.
