The Progression Of Video Games In The Last 20 Years by

Have you ever taken a look back to see the progression of video games in the last 20 years or so? They have definitely come a long way. Take for example, the classic game Space Invaders, that game's design was simple, little white colored spaceships slowly and may we add mechanically descending to destroy the small little fighter we used to use to try to kill the Space Invaders. Try to envision that game being done today.

Color and realistic space ships flying through actual graphics of space or the Earth's sky. If kids today saw the Space Invaders of the 80's they would feel sorry for those of us who used to play that game. The games like Asteroids which is pretty simple in concept judging by the video games today like Guitar Hero is still one of the most popular games ever played.

Then we stepped up to games like Pac Man and Frogger. These games had more advanced graphics and the concepts were a bit more challenging. In Pac Man there was a race to eat the pellets and the fruits before the ghosts ate you. Then in Frogger, you had to get the frog across the street without being splattered across the road. For sports, Pole Position was one of the best games of the 80's. There were good graphics by the standards back then and the game was .

Donkey Kong was a great game in the 1980's. You controlled the gorilla and you had the challenge of helping him get to the top of the screen without losing a life. It was challenging and the graphics were better. Then in the 90's came interactive games like Zelda, Final Fantasy and Sin City. Even the sports games were better; Grand Turismo is one of the best games in the 90's. Games that you could control the actions, games like Final Fantasy where you control the if the character lives or dies, if you take the character to the next level or stay where you are.

The video games of today are much more interactive, the creators make the games so real that you pretty much control every aspect of the game. Games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Brothers sell millions, the graphics and the concepts behind these games are so different then the games we played 20 years ago. Twenty years ago we would not have had games like Rock Band or Guitar Hero the ultimate interactive games.

Games of today have better graphics and are much more challenging but the games of the 80's and the 90's were less violent and are fun for people of all ages. There was never any warning label on Space Invaders or Donkey Kong. These games are classic games and will be around for many years, can we really say the same about games like Grand Theft Auto or Tomb Raider? Only time will tell.

Score! NASA spots soccer-ball shape buckyballs in space (Albuquerque Journal)

NASA's Spitzer telescope found solid buckyballs for the first time in a pile
big enough to fill 10,000 Mount Everests.

Astronomers have discovered solid soccer-ball shaped molecules called
buckyballs in space for the first time, providing a glimpse of the structure
of matter and perhaps life in the cosmos.

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory yesterday announced that the Spitzer Space
Telescope was able to detect the buckyballs around a pair of stars 6,500
light-years from Earth. Named after the geodesic domes of architect
Buckminster Fuller, buckministerfullerenes, or buckyballs, are sphere-shaped
molecules with 60 carbon atoms. The unusual cage-like structure has made them
candidates for storing hydrogen fuel or medical treatments on Earth.

Until now, astronomers have only found buckyballs in a gas form in space. Data
from the telescope showed the microscopic molecules, each thinner than a
strand of hair, to be stacked on top each other in a volume equivalent to
10,000 Mount Everests.

The buckyballs, which occur naturally on Earth, are now the largest molecules
known in space. Just like a soccer ball, they are a precise combination of
hexagons and pentagons. Buckyballs are formed when burning a candle and are
found in certain types ...
