Video Game Tester Job - What Will I Be Doing and How Much Will I Make? by Sean T Saunders

Professionally playing video for money is obviously a whole lot better than the majority of jobs out there. On the other hand though, being paid to test , like any other type of employment, does come with a few downsides. Admittedly, these downsides are few and far between, but they do actually exist and every single game tester has to accept & deal with them.

How Much You'll Make as a Video Game Tester

There isn't a specific salary that you'll begin making once you decide to begin testing video games. Different companies pay different wages, so it's hard to give a precise figure on how much a video game beta tester can or will be paid. In light of that fact, don't wholeheartedly believe advertisements that say beta testers are paid $120 an hour. Although it's not a full blown lie, it's not really the truth either -- Game tester wages can be quite high, just not that high.

With $120/hour wages, a tester would earn $600 with only 5 short hours of work. To be honest, you'd have a tough time locating a professional video game tester that gets paid even half that amount for a whole days work.

Average Wages: Yearly wages of a video game tester can range from a low $15000 to an amazing $80,000 or more. Monthly wages can range from $1200 to a high $10000. Weekly salary can be anywhere from $350 to a ample $2000.

What you're paid as a professional beta game tester is directly associated with the gaming developer you are employed with as well as the overall amount of work you can manage.

What You Are Paid To Do as a Professional Tester

Unfortunately, you won't just be playing video games all day long. In truth, testing video games and playing video games are two COMPLETELY different things. Although many professional testers do have fun testing video games, the fun isn't quite as "awesome" as they originally thought it would be. Why? Simply because there is actual worked involved with the testing process.

Instead of just being paid to judge the "fun"aspect of a video game, beta testers are hired to find what programmers and coders can't, which is bugs and glitches. Game programmers can easily identify the larger bugs & glitches; but when it's time to find and fix ALL of them, which includes the dramatically tiny and far less obvious ones, game developers place their trust in the best game testers to get the job done as quickly and as efficiently as possible. Having said all that, as a professional game tester it is YOUR JOB to play a video game however long it takes in order to find, re-find, and then document every one of the game's bugs and glitches!
