Classic Arcade Games Emulation with MAME by Koral Wilkins
The main attraction at the Arcades has been the Arcade games. I'm sure a lot of you wont forget classics like Galaga, Gunsmoke and Outrun. Unfortunately these games and Arcade cabinets have disappeared now. The hardware of PC's are now getting more and more powerful with its CPU, graphics and online gaming capability as well as consoles that Arcade gaming is considered retro. But for many of us the old Arcades are with us. MAME is an emulator that plays Arcade games. At this present time there are more than 2500 games available. The emulation is near perfect as the roms are downloaded from the original arcade chips. The emulator is not only available for PC but also the consoles, one being the XBOX.
There is a big interest and community that appreciates the opportunity to play their favorite Arcade games, almost like in the old days. Still most agree its not the same excitement with a keyboard or joy pad. However with a MAME Cabinet it can be a great Arcade experience. A MAME Cabinet is like a real Arcade. One where there are Arcade controls, marquee and the coin doors. Often people use PC's but hidden inside the cabinet and there are also ways to hide the Windows user interface. There are a good amount of frontends to choose from. A frontend is being the software which helps you launch the games. With the correct setup, you can program them for other emulators too. Maybe you want to enjoy some games for C64, Spectrum and Nintendo or maybe even have a Jukebox with your favorite music. The choice is all up to you! It is quite some work building a MAME cabinet. You might try you're luck and find an old Arcade machine to build on, maybe use some of the parts too. Still there are several places to buy the parts if you were to build a cabinet from scratch. Just search on the net. As for the display you can easily use a PC monitor, still better would be to use a graphic cards s-video output and connect it to a TV. To play most the games at their native resolution you would need a real Arcade monitor. There is one exception if you are based in Europe where there are CRT Scart TV's available you can use this together with an ArcadeVGA graphics card via the Scart RGB connection, this combination turns your TV into an Arcade monitor. In the end no matter what system you have, there is always the MAME emulator where we can enjoy all the classic Arcades.

Multi Emulator Super System $111.53 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Multi Emulator Super System (MESS) is an emulator for many game consoles and computer systems, based on the MAME core. MESS emulates portable and console gaming systems, computer platforms and calculators. The project strives for accuracy and portability and therefore is not always the fastest emulator for any one particular system. However, its accuracy makes it useful for homebrew game development, for example on the Atari 7800. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F.
